SINCE 1902…
Citizens State Bank of Clara City has been providing financial services to community residents since it opened its doors for business on November 15, 1902.
The bank operated as a Company Bank under the name of German American Bank until the year 1909 when it was incorporated and given a state charter under the name of German American State Bank. The bank continued to operate with this name until 1918 when the name was changed to Citizens State Bank of Clara City.
Citizens State Bank has grown significantly by means of acquisitions and mergers. In 1986, Americana State Bank’s assets and liabilities were merged into Citizens State Bank of Clara City. Since then, Citizens acquired Security State Bank of Maynard in 1991, Metropolitan Federal in Granite Falls in 1995, First State Bank in Lake Lillian in 2005, and most recently Yellow Medicine County Bank with offices in Echo and Granite Falls in May 2007. The bank has five offices within a 50 mile radius of Clara City and employs 55 people. Many of our employees have in excess of 25 years of banking experience.
Bank assets which started at $10,000 in 1902 have grown to $350,000,000 as of December 31, 2008.
